After your client has gone through all of the stages of the counseling process and has met their goals successfully, I image the process of termination could be quite challenging and would need to be approached with care. I would handle my final meeting with them with this in mind. To begin with, I would have set the stage so that the client was aware of our impending meetings by gently reminding them in sessions leading up to our departure. I would then maybe spend the session before our last meeting by asking the client what it was that they wanted to focus on during our last session.
